Hyderabad: Over 1,200 phones were tapped and the accused, some of them top police officers, tried to destroy evidence by damaging storage devices, Hyderabad police has said in its chargesheet in the Telangana phone tapping case that has raised a political storm. No leader of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi, which was in power in Telangana at the time, has been named in the chargesheet. The accused include Deputy Superintendent of Police D Praneeth Rao, Additional Superintendents Bhujanga Rao and Tirupathanna, former Deputy Commissioner of Police (task force) Radha Kishan Rao and two fugitives — former Special Intelligence Branch chief Prabhakar Rao and Sravan Kumar, senior employee in a local media organisation.

Hyderabad: The exodus of BRS MLAs to the Congress in Telangana continued with another of its legislators joining the ruling party on Sunday. Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA Dr M. Sanjay Kumar met Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Sunday night and joined the Congress. The Chief Minister, who is also the state unit President, welcomed Sanjay into the party. Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy, former minister Sudershan Reddy, and Chief Minister’s advisor Vem Narender Reddy were present. Sanjay was re-elected for a second consecutive term from the Jagtial Assembly constituency in Nizamabad district in the elections held in November 2023. He is the fifth BRS MLA to switch loyalties since Congress came to power in December last year. This came two days after senior leader and former Assembly Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy joined the Congress. Srinivas Reddy is a BRS MLA and a prominent leader from Nizamabad district. The BRS had won 39 seats in the 119-member Assembly. Its strength has now come down to 33 as it also lost the recent Secunderabad Cantonment by-election to the ruling party.

Hyderabad: BRS leader KT Rama Rao (KTR), speaking exclusively with NDTV, offered an “unconditional apology” for his recent remarks on women which have triggered a political firestorm in Telangana. During a speech to party workers yesterday, KTR spoke about women utilising the state’s free bus travel scheme which was introduced shortly after the Congress came to power in the state this year. He said women travelling on these buses could “do break dances” if they wished, adding that the BRS had no objection if women engaged in activities like knitting while on the bus as long as busses were safe.

Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy on Wednesday (September 4, 2024) handed over two cheques of ₹5 lakh each to the bereaved family members of young agricultural scientist Nunavath Ashwini and her father Mothilal, who died in a flood-related incident on Sunday (September 1, 2024). The Minister gave away the cheques to Ashwini’s mother and brother at their native village Gangaram Thanda in Karepalli mandal towards ex-gratia payment. He also handed over the Indiramma house sanction letter to them.

BRS its out State government over its inefficiency in controlling Jainoor violence

Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao hit out the State government for its inefficiency in handling of tensions in Jainoor mandal of Kumrambhim Asifabad district, following an attempted rape of a tribal woman. The incident led to widespread violence, resulting in significant property destruction. In a statement, Rama Rao condemned the State government’s decision to offer a mere Rs 1 lakh as compensation to the victim, calling it an evil gesture that undermined the gravity of the crime. “The government had prior information about the tensions, and yet it completely failed to prevent the violence,” he stated. He demanded immediate action to restore peace in the region, ensure proper treatment for the victim, and provide substantial aid to those who lost homes and businesses in the riots. He pointed out the absence of a full-time Home Minister in Telangana for last nine months, leading to such law and order issues. He demanded the State government to act swiftly against the accused and ensure justice for the victim, besides maintaining law and order in the State.
